November meeting

It might have been a cold day outside as we have been dealing with a particularly chilly November, but we Cranberry Lacers were warm with camaraderie and friendship as we gathered together for our regular monthly meeting.  (It shall be noted that the room where we meet at the library was indeed a bit chilly today!).

Many of us chose to work on the same project, as suggested by our teacher Pat: an Idrija heart.

There was also a beautiful silverly snowflake to admire and, of course, Beth's stunning Binche lace:

We meet every third Saturday of the month for a day of lacing and conversation. We are a group of friendly lacemakers with a range of experience - we are lucky enough to have a professional instructor to teach the beginners and work with the experienced.  Anyone is welcome to join us!  The room we meet in at the library is large with lots of light.  Feel free to email us at cranberrylacers@gmail.com for more information.Cranberry Lacers has been a chartered chapter group of IOLI for 25 years

September Meeting

Six Cranberry Lacers got together on this beautiful fall day to enjoy the hours of lacing and companionship.  Pat brought a number of patterns and ideas for some group projects going forward, including a star design for a lesson on using magic threads, an Idrija heart, and some torchon designs to explore different grounds and different spiders.  We also enjoyed a good look through some Idrija books of Pat's and a stack of old IOLI bulletins that I (Arlene) was given.

As always, there was a variety of projects being worked on throughout the day. I brought my finished lace, mounted on a piece of fabric.  Final finishing (putting it into a frame to become a clock) to come!:
 An Idrijia piece just begun:
Mary has been working on her tatting lately:

July meeting

This blog writer hasn't been able to make it to a Cranberry Lacers monthly meeting for the last few months.  The group has been meeting, but sadly, no blog post to record those meetings!  Finally, today, no personal conflicts and I was able to join with the other six for an enjoyable day of lacemaking, escaping the awful heat and humidity outside.

We had one tatting and a variety of lace pillows with a variety of lace styles today.  Not to mention some beautiful bobbins on said pillows!

March meeting

This blog writer was on a trip in February and missed last month's meeting of the Cranberry lacers, so it was great to be back with the gang today and be sharing our lace together.

A couple of special parts of today.  I (Arlene) brought with me a large lace and silk tablecloth that I got from the treasure trove of lace donation that was mentioned in the January meeting post.  This was the first time that I was able to spread it out completely, as I don't have the floor space at home! It is about 6 1/2 feet by 7 1/2 feet.  We had interesting conversations about the lace, the silk, the plans for restoration, the possible history (nothing is actually known about it).  It is a marvelous piece, despite the crumbling silk.

Next, Helga brought the order of blue film that was ordered from Europe for guild members and the guild.  One roll needed to be divided in half - a 20 meter roll turned into two 10 meter pieces.  We got to work!

Here was what was on our lace pillows today.  It being the day before St. Patrick's Day, Pat offered a 3-leaf clover pattern for anyone interested!

And, of course, sometimes we just need to spend our time winding bobbins (but we know a beautiful shawl will be the end result, right, Helga?):

January meeting

Happy 2019 everyone!  Cranberry Lacers enjoyed getting together on this Saturday.  Many of us realized that we hadn't touched our lace pillows an awful lot in the last few weeks and so there was definitely a "getting back into the swing of things" learning curve to the early part of our day.  After a bit, though, we were all happily lacing away.

In addition to the variety of lace on our pillows and projects planned and in the works, there was also continued discussions about a fantastic experience back in November (when this blog writer was sick and unfortunately missed out on a great day).  A gentleman dropped off six boxes of lace and books that his first wife had collected some years ago.  A few of the items were back again today and we discussed some of this beautiful old collector pieces.  Here is a glimpse of some of them:

And, of course, some pictures of what was on our pillows today:
